Lavinia FontanaMatriarch of the family business

Lavinia Fontana was an Italian Badass Female Artist born on August 24, 1552. Fontana contributed to the Italian Renaissance movement and died on August 11, 1614.

One of the few women painters of the Italian Renaissance, Fontana raised 13 kids on the income of her paintings. Trained by her father in Bologna, Fontana continued the family business and thrived in a field dominated by men. Full biography coming soon.
