In 1890, Vincent Van Gogh was released from his asylum. His doctor at the time, Gachet, was his influence for this piece of art. Van Gogh made two copies of the work, one of them was for Gachet to keep himself. While the record has been broken since, this painting in 1990 became the most expensive piece of art ever sold at an auction at over 82.5 million dollars. However, after this transaction, the location of the painting has been lost and remains a mystery through today.
