There is not a lot of information to be found on this particular work. In John Rewald's biography of Cezanne [1.], Cezanne's wife speaks of how they would go out to the wilderness each weekend to explore and look for inspiration. Critics assume that this painting was of a place in Fontainebleau, but some think it could have been in southern France.
