Portrait of Pare Watene is an Oil on Canvas Painting created by Gottfried Lindauer in 1878. It lives at the Auckland Art Gallery in New Zealand. The image is in the Public Domain, and tagged Portraits and Women.
Pare Watana was a member of the Ngāti Maru tribe of New Zealand’s indigenous Māori people. Not much is known about Pare Watana, though we may guess that she was of chiefly descent by the tail feathers of the now extinct huia bird worn in her hair.
