This illumination introduces Part 3, Vision 1 of Hildegard von Bingen’s final visionary writing, the Liber Divinorum Operum, or “Book of Divine Works.” Hildegard completed the first copy of the Divinorum Operum in around 1173, but this illumination comes from a 13th century copy known as the Lucca manuscript.
